Silicon Dioxide CLH Classification: ASASP Online Downstream Users Forum

On 9 July, 14:00 - 15:00 CEST, ASASP is holding an online Forum for Downstream Users of Synthetic Amorphous Silica (SAS).  The meeting will focus on the CLH classification proposal by the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) and the public consultation which will run from June 10 until August 9, 2024.

Please reach out to Cheryl Campbell if you are interested in joining the online Forum at cca@cefic.be.

Background:

On 10 June, the public consultation for Silicon Dioxide (EC / List no: 231-545-4 CAS no: 7631-86-9) (also called Synthetic Amorphous Silica (SAS)) has been opened. The dossier has been submitted to ECHA by the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), proposing a harmonised classification (CLH) for solid forms of Silicon Dioxide as STOT RE 1 by inhalation, (H372).

The public consultation on this proposal will run from June 10 until August 9, 2024. Click here to visit the ECHA website for more information: Registry of CLH intentions until outcome - ECHA (europa.eu)

SAS is safe in all its applications and therefore ASASP and the EU REACH consortium (SASFORREACH) do not agree with the classification proposed by the Dutch competent authority. ASASP and SASFORREACH will contribute to the public consultation with robust data and scientific arguments, validated by independent experts.

ASASP and SASFORREACH encourage SAS registrants and SAS downstream users to also send comments during the public consultation period.
